Seattle Seahawks outside linebacker Derick Hall will officially launch the Derick Hall One Percent Foundation with a “community-impact event” in his hometown of Gulfport, Mississippi, in one month.
The Derick Hall One Percent Foundation will focus on supporting premature babies and their families, combating food insecurity and addressing childhood obesity in underserved communities.
The first objective is particularly close to the former Auburn standout’s heart because he lived it.
Hall weighed just 2 pounds, 9 ounces when he was born four months premature on March 19, 2001. He spent his first five months of life in a hospital incubator, hooked to a feeding tube and ventilator. Hall was given a 1 percent chance of survival, leading to the name for his foundation.
Despite that start, Hall went on to become a star athlete at Gulfport High School, a first-team All-SEC selection in 2022 at Auburn and the 37th selection in the 2023 NFL Draft.
The kickoff event for the Derrick Hall One Percent Foundation will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. CDT June 20 at Centennial Plaza Resort in Gulfport.
Sponsorship opportunities are available.
In his rookie NFL season, Hall played in all 17 games for Seattle. On the field for 307 defensive snaps and 287 special-teams plays, Hall recorded 38 tackles, three tackles for loss, five quarterback hits and one pass breakup in his first NFL season.
